In the Knockout round, the two remaining players were shown eight matching pairs of pictures from the story for 10 seconds. Then the pictures were recovered up by numbers 1-16. Each player in turn must pick two numbers that contain two pictures that match each other. Upon making a match, the matched pictures turned green. When a player does not make a match, the round was shifted to sudden death territory where either player will have a chance to move on to the next level by making the next correct match. The next correct match is today's BrainSurge Champion.

Trivia[]
- Although there's no footage of the knockout round getting completed, it was revealed in an interview with Jeff that a lot of contestants cleared the knockout round but the footage was edited out and never shown. The board was reset until someone made a mistake and was knocked out.
- In Episode 106, the size of the board is shorter and the brainiacs' profiles are larger. However, this only happens once to date.
- From Episode 102 to Episode 112, When the Knockout Round begins, the numbers fades in. But starting with Episode 113 and onwards, they slide up now.
